Steve Jobs: a Self-made billionaire

Steve Jobs(Steven Paul Jobs) was the co-founder of the tech giant Apple Inc. He is an American Businessman who brought a revolution in the technology field of the whole world mainly in computers through Apple and animations through Pixar.

Early Life

Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955, in San Francisco, California, US. He was born to Joanne Schieble and Syrian-born John Jandali who were unmarried at that time Steve was given up for adoption to Paul and Clara Jobs.

His real name is Steven but his mother used to call him Steve. He joined a local school in California and later enrolled in Reed College, Portland, Oregon. He joined calligraphy class in the college which fascinated him.

Steve Jobs and Apple

Steve Jobs started his first job at Atari Inc. On April 1, 1976, Steve Jobs with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne founded Apple Computer Company. Wayne left the partnership within a few weeks. Apple I computer built by Apple Computer company. Jobs and Wozniak later introduced Apple II in April 1977. Apple II was the first consumer product and first highly successful mass-produced microcomputer in the world.

He was in a relationship with Chrisan Brennan from his high school days. Their relation had already been complex. After Brennan returned from her own journey to India, she and Jobs fell in love again. Brennan was involved in the shipping department at Apple in the early days. Later she left Apple as she knew she was pregnant. She gave birth to a baby girl but Steve Jobs denied paternity.

Apple was growing exponentially. At the age of 23, in 1978 Jobs worth $1 million. By the time he was 25, his net worth grew to $25 million. On January 24, 1984, the Macintosh was introduced at Apple’s annual shareholder’s meeting. The Macintosh was hardly struggling to defeat the IBM PC. In the same year, Jobs was fired from the post of CEO and then he resigned.

Pixar and NeXT computer

After resigning from Apple, he started his new venture called NeXT. He developed a technologically advanced workstation called NeXT workstation in 1990 which was similar to Apple Lisa. It was priced at US$9999. Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1990 using the NeXT computer. The revised version, NeXTcube was released in 1990. Later in 1997, NeXT was acquired by Apple Inc and Steve Jobs returned to the Apple.

He also founded another company named Pixar which worked a lot in the development of modern computer graphics. In 1995, Toy Story was released by Pixar in partnership with Disney. Later Disney acquired Pixar making Steve Jobs the largest single shareholder of The Walt Disney Company.

After Apple bought NeXT, he became the interim chief executive of Apple Inc and later became the permanent CEO. He brought many transformations in the company including the release of Mac OS X.Apple also launched iMac and iPod. In June 2007, Apple launched the iPhone keeping its first step in the cellular phone business.

Health Issue and death

Steve Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2003. In July 2004 he finally had surgery that appeared to remove the tumor successfully. His health kept deteriorating slowly despite the surgery. in 2009, he underwent a liver transplant. Tim Cook offered a portion of his liver to Jobs. Tim Cook was the acting CEO of Apple in the absence of Jobs during 2004.

On August 24, 2011, Steve Jobs announced his resignation as Apple’s Ceo and named Tim Cook as his successor CEO. Steve Jobs died on October 5, 2011, at his home around 3 pm in Palo Alto, California. He lost consciousness the day before and died of respiratory arrest. A small private funeral was held on October 7, 2011. Steve’s final words were: ‘Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.’”
